I’m glad someone finally spoke up. The Gawker media properties have no value if they have no authors and no users. While the former is easily replaced, the latter is not. It would be silly for Our New Overlords to shut down the properties they just purchased with the expectation that the users will seamlessly start using their other non-equivalent websites. There’s a reason we are hanging out here instead of at Road & Track, although many of us can be found over there too.

I expect that they will keep the lights on at the big money-makers so they don’t lose the monkeys that click on the ads that bring in that money.

Seriously, main pages are nice and all but all the best peeps are in the back rooms. Kinja as a system has its perks and could be grown beautifully if cultivated. I love my neighbors here and I love that every subby has a local kind of flavor, not like some massively multihoser socializing game. This is a beautiful place for quiet types who aren’t dead yet either, and I don’t want it to go.

PowderRoom is pretty much dead nowadays. It was Slaybelle’s domain for thoughtful pieces that explored feminism, and she was very, very selective about the authors she allowed there. Slay’s largely stepped away from kinja, AFAIK, and PR has become a wasteland of Weekly Cross Thread posts. But even if it weren’t, I don’t think Slay would want it to be a free for all. (Though I’m hesitant to say that because I don’t want to speak for her).

Again, I'm willing to share this post on every sub-blog I have authorship on, but I think one of the recurring themes I've seen amongst the different communities is a desire to maintain their identities.
